Monza is facing an early summer that has already led to toxic ozone levels. On May 30, Arpa monitoring stations recorded a peak of 177 milligrams per cubic meter, well above the alert threshold. This phenomenon was caused by a high-pressure system and heat waves, which brought ozone earlier than in previous years, a toxic gas generated from the interaction of pollutants and solar radiation. Legambiente Lombardia has issued a warning, highlighting the risks to human health and agriculture. Ozone negatively affects respiratory tissues and reduces photosynthesis in plants, worsening agricultural productivity. According to regulations, the threshold of 120 milligrams per cubic meter should not be exceeded for more than twenty-five days a year, but already now, before the official start of the season, daily exceedances are being recorded. Legambiente suggests reducing methane emissions, largely from agriculture, as a possible solution to tackle the air pollution problem in Monza.
